Jose Fernandez killed in boating accident, per reports

Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has been killed in a boating accident

Jose Fernandez, Miami Marlins pitcher, was killed in a boating accident last night, per multiple reporters out of Miami on Twitter.
This is a shocking and tragic story...Fernandez, 24, is one of the best young pitchers in baseball.  The former first round pick in 2011 missed much of the 2014 and 2015 seasons after Tommy John surgery, and has a 2.89 ERA this year while leading the majors with a 2.29 FIP.
I'm just in shock at this point.  There's very little information available right now, or even any official word or announcement.  My thoughts go out to Fernandez's family and the Marlins organization.  I will update this story as more information comes available.
UPDATE -- Clark Spencer, Marlins beat writer, tweets that he has confirmed that Fernandez was killed in a boating accident last night.
UPDATE II -- The Marlins have confirmed Fernandez has passed away.  Their game today has been canceled.
UPDATE III -- When Fernandez escaped Cuba for America via boat, he ended up saving his mother from drowning on the trip:
